It’s that time again, when our Angus Yearling Bulls head to our annual spring sale.
At Rockley Angus, our young bulls bring a mix of proven and new genetics, which means that you can achieve genetic gain more quickly. Very few Angus studs in New Zealand sell their bulls as yearlings, so if you attend the Rockley Yearling Bull Sale, you get first pick of the whole crop, because we don’t keep anything for a Two-year-old sale!
See you at the sale
We’re looking forward to welcoming you to our Annual Angus Yearling Bull Sale:
1pm Friday, 10 October 2025 on our property at Balfour, Southland.
Pre-sale testing
To make the Yearling Sale, Rockley yearlings are muscle scanned and have passed an Xcell Breeding Services Fertility/Semen test.
We also maintain 5-Star Completeness of Recording. We record as many traits as possible so you can get a very clear picture of the provenance of your Rockley Angus bulls.
Add an asset to your herd with Rockley Angus cross-breeding
Because beef prices have been so good lately, and the memory of last spring is still fresh in many sheep farmers’ minds, we’re continuing to see a lot of interest in beef – coming from both traditional sheep and beef farmers and also dairy farmers as well.
Not only can Rockley Angus Bulls be used over Beef for their calving ease but also Dairy. Using a Rockley Bull can be a good option over low-producing dairy cows to help you minimise Bobby Calf numbers.
Unlike bobby calves that go off at three days, you finish your Angus cross-bred stock for 18 to 24 months, benefiting from their increasing value as they grow.
There are also advantages to sheep farmers beyond the ability of beef cattle to withstand unseasonable weather – beef is cheaper to run than sheep, with fewer yardings and no shearing costs.
Calving Ease is bred in at Rockley Angus
A big emphasis at Rockley Angus is calving ease, and we’ve worked hard not to compromise growth – our calves grow and hit breed average target weights.
Rockley Angus by the numbers
The following graphs show that Rockley Angus bulls in red consistently outperform the national average. Note that the data for 2025 is still being recorded.
